 Facility Performance Evaluation
POE Contest Entry for Nick Cimino, Winning Entry

Question:   How Can Post Occupancy Evaluation help you or DGS do a better job?

POE has the potential to be enormously helpful to me as a Regional Building Manager. First, it is a tool to address tenant concerns. The occupants of the buildings can tell us exactly how the building affects their productivity. Second, it will be an opportunity for my staff to share the lessons that they have learned from daily operations. If a building feature becomes overly maintenance intensive it will end up being modified or replaced. If a building feature is too difficult to operate it will become useless, wasted investment. POE can improve the performance of DGS in the following ways:

  • Lower life cycle costs of public buildings.
  • Speed decision processes.
  • Increase the control of occupants over their building environment.
  • Enhance the state's investment in real property.
  • Increase productivity of state agencies.
  • Increase the conservation ethic in state operations.
  • Improve the design of future projects.
  • Create more efficient and attractive buildings.
  • Improve customer satisfaction.
  • Enhance the reputation of DGS.
  • Minimize the frequency and cost of change orders.
  • Improve community relations.
  • Achieve DGS vision/mission and goals.
